Termite Mound
Ants are ecologically dominant in almost every terrestrial environment. Mogalakwena reserves have a variety of ant types, all of which play an important role in the broader functioning of landscape, faunal and floral ecology. This project would provide students and volunteers with skills in ant identification and classification, an understanding of the interrelated processes of ecology, and would provide information useful to the management of the reserves. Ant surveys could also be further linked to other faunal or floral studies, such as the relationship between ant distribution and abundance of Aardwolf or Aardvark.
