Mogalakwena Research Centre has recently received camera traps. These traps, along with other density measures (scats, spoor, baited sand plots) can be used to undertake animal distribution and density studies. The Mogalakwena Reserves is home to some unique African animals, including populations of Mountain Reedbuck, Brown Hyena, Leopard, Aardwolf, Aardvark, Civet, Caracal, Genet, Bat-eared Fox & Black-backed Jackal. Studies on these animal groups could include distribution studies, density studies and behavioural studies and would provide a variety of skill-based opportunities. This information would also benefit the reserve management plans.
