Helicopter Game Count
The Mogalakwena Reserves are located in semi-arid, sweet Limpopo Valley bushveld. The wet season extends through the summer months from September through to May. Rainfall varies between 350mm to 700mm annually. Temperatures range from -5 degrees celsius in the winter to 45 degrees celsius in the peak of summer. The majority of soils are sandy Huttons, Shortlands and Tukulu soil types, with a predominating parent rock of Alldays Gneiss.

Reserve management involves data collection for rainfall, temperature, soil type and condition, and faunal and floral species occurance and abundance. Veld condition surveys and game counts are undertaken on an annual basis to ensure that the reserve carrying capacity is maintained. Game counts are either undertaken by vehicle, horseback or helicopter. Veld surveys are conducted annually from February to April.
