SABCA, the Southern Africa Butterfly Conservation Assessment, is a conservation project operated by the Animal Demography Unit in South Africa. Citizen involvement in atlas projects such as SABCA can contribute significantly to species conservation.

The Mogalakwena Research Centre enlisted as part of this project in September 2010. The Mogalakwena Research Centre contributes to SABCA by taking photographs of butterflies, caterpillars and pupae located on the Mogalakwena Reserves throughout the year and submitting them to the SABCA Virtual Museum, along with information regarding locality, climate and habitat. This project also helps to increase our records of butterfly species on the Mogalakwena Reserves.
