The SAEON Ndlovu Node collects and manages ecological data from savanna biomes to monitor environmental changes. The Ndlovu Node is hosted by the South African National Parks and is based outside of Kruger National Park in Phalaborwa. Although most of the work done by SAEON Ndlovu Node is concentrated on the savanna landscape in and around Kruger National Park, Mogalakwena Research Centre is in a unique position to assist with ecological data collection from a different savanna biome, the Limpopo Valley Sweet Bushveld.

Mogalakwena Research Centre participates in a number of SAEON projects. These include the bird migration and abundance monitoring, birds-eye view migration monitoring, climate-buddy flowering monitoring and turning a new leaf projects. The objectives of these projects are to primarily document the effects of global change on natural ecosystem structure and function.

To further strengthen community involvement in this project, guests are able to help contribute to the bird migration and abundance monitoring projects during their stay at Mogalakwena River Lodge. To find out more, visit the SAEON Ndlovu Node website.
